05/03/12Pet of the Week: CrosbyMy name is Crosby, and I was transferred from the County Animal Shelter. I am a calm, sweet, well-mannered little pup. I am a house dog, and I love, love, love my bed. After they tormented by children sticking things like straws up my nose, to be honest, I'm not very fond of kids anymore. I stopped them from doing that, but then I ended up on death row for protecting myself. I am 2 years old, heartworm negative and 11 pounds. 04/26/12Pet of the Week: WeebleMy name is Weeble, and I was transferred from the County Animal Shelter the very day my owners left me. They moved into an new home and did not take me with them. I had been with them all my life so the change to the animal shelter was a little stressful for me. Plus, these people at the Mobile SPCA put me on a diet! I admit I was fat, fat, fat! But I say there's just more of me to love. I am about 7 years old, female, heartworm negative and weigh 15 pounds. 04/24/12It’s That Time AgainOur annual swimsuit issue has been making waves ever since the ’80s. The pictures always tend to ruffle some feathers – conservative women say we should have covered our models up more, while men ask for more skin. With a mixed audience like ours, it’s hard to find the balance, but it’s something we strive to do each year. And it never fails, the shoot itself is no easy task. It’s always one of the most fun and most stressful day (or in this case days) of the year. Weeks of planning and pulling tear sheets for inspiration go into prepping for the shoot to keep the chaos as organized as possible, all the while knowing that all that work can go out the window at a moments notice once you actually start taking the pictures. This year was no exception. I... |

04/19/12Pet of the Week: Lola and LouieOur names are Lola and Louie and we are a part of an unwanted litter. Our mom was homeless and in search of food when she managed to find shelter under a nice man's house right before we were born. We and our 2 other siblings—Lucas and Lacy—had a rough start, but we are doing just fine now! We have been in a foster home so we are crate trained and learning housetraining. We need regular puppy training and lots of toys to chew on. We are just 10 weeks old, heartworm negative, weigh 15 pounds and are growing! 04/12/12Pet of the Week: BaileyMy name is Bailey, and my owner could no longer keep me. I just could not adjust to the new grandchild. Squeaky little children are just not my favorite things — that's the Schnauzer in me! Just being honest! If you're not a child, I'd like to be near you all the time. When you leave me, I need a cookie to tide me over while you are gone. I mind well, know how to sit and am smart and sweet. Regular grooming is necessary. I am 4 and half years old, heartworm negative and weigh 20 pounds. For more information on how to adopt me or my friends into your family, click here. |

04/09/12Back in WhiteIn my book, the day after Easter is one of the most exciting fashion days of the year. It’s the day I wake up early to make sure my outfit is crisp and pressed. It’s the day I “spring clean” my closet, clearing a special place at the front for the new pieces to which I’ve just been granted access. Why all the fuss? It’s the 216th day since I’ve worn white. (Yes, I counted). Call me old fashioned, but there is something innately engrained in my soul that prevents me from wearing white during the post-Labor Day, pre-Easter months. Even during my college years, I never let my favorite pair of white wedges grace the soles of my feet because I knew my mother, miles across town, would probably be able to sense I was breaking the cardinal rule.... |

04/05/12Pet of the Week: TresemmeHello, my name is Tresemme! My littermates and I were abandoned and left to die in the woods. Thankfully someone found us and the Mobile SPCA cared for us until we were old enough to be adopted. I am 3 months old, male, cute and am extra sweet. I weigh about 15 pounds, so I will be a medium to large dog once fully grown. I don't remember my mom, but I think she was maybe a lab or hound. I have two sisters who need homes, too. They say we are really nice puppies! We all need regular puppy and crate training, just like all 3-month-old puppies do. We would be great with kids because we are sweet and sturdy and have wonderful personalities. For more information on how to adopt me or my sisters into your family, click here. |

04/02/12Pet of the Week: WhirlwindI live up to my name! I am full of fun and I love life. I am extra playful — I love to bop the other kitties on the head and run into my kitty tunnel and get them to chase me. I like people and other kitties. I’m a cat on a mission: PARTY! I am Dora the Explorer and can make a toy out of anything: pencils, post-it notes, even potatoes! If you’re looking for some laughs and someone to liven up the household, think about inviting me. I am a sweet girl, two-and-a-half years old, feluk negative, spayed and am up to date on my vaccinations. For more information on adopting me one of my friends, click here. |
