Ashton Sumlin Creel & Matthew Robert Hennig

Ashton Sumlin Creel and Matthew Robert Hennig were united in marriage at Trinity Episcopal Church on May 7, 2016. The Rev. Bailey Norman officiated with Rev. John Jernigan assisting. 

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Gregory Creel. The groom is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Jerry Lee Hennig. 

The bride wore a custom dress created by Heidi Elnora of Birmingham. The halter bodice flowed into a fit-to-flare shape with elongated princess seams with a lightly corded lace overlay. A detachable A-line skirt, made of tulle, opened in the front. The bride completed her wedding day look with her something borrowed: her mother’s veil trimmed in lace and designed by Kelly Thompson of Fairhope. The bride carried a clutch-style bouquet of light green hydrangeas with white peonies and roses designed by Tommy Nix. 

The bride chose her lifelong friend Ocllo Parks as her maid of honor. Her bridesmaids were Christina Creel, Lauren Erdman, Caroline Hennig, Kelley Killorin, Julia Morris and Allison Sullivan. Junior bridesmaids were Reese Dube, Claire Johnson and Nancy Skidmore. Serving as flower girls were Mary Carlton Johnson and McDuffie Skidmore. Parker Dube served as ring bearer. The groom chose his father, Jerry Hennig, as best man. Groomsmen were Alexander Cabaniss, Tucker Creel, Jackson Haisten, Tyler Harrison, Andrew Hennig and Johnathan Hennig. Other wedding party members included readers Abigail Jernigan and Kaithlyn Thornton. Adam Dyas, Chris Lee, Riley Macwilliam and John Wyatt were ushers, and Caroline Lyell performed as vocalist. 

Following the ceremony, a joyful celebration was held at Fort Condé Inn. The Old Shell Trolley transported the wedding party to the reception where the street and courtyard were illuminated by white Italian lights. The setting’s decor included classic romantic touches with lush arrangements of roses, hydrangeas and greenery. Guests dined on delicious Southern favorites prepared by Georgia Roussos Catering. The wedding cake, created by Flour Girls, was four tiers tall with buttercream icing. 

At the reception beneath the oaks, guests lingered and danced to Motown favorites by the band Hotwire. The newly married couple had their first dance to “Crazy Love” by Van Morrison. 

Guests created a breathtaking tunnel of sparklers, sending the bride and groom away. The couple enjoyed a wonderful honeymoon in St. Lucia and now resides in Mobile.
