When the Lights Go Down in the City
    Thursday, September 2,  2010
   By: Lawren Largue

See Mobile from a new perspective, basking in luminous moonlight.

Main: From a Fort Conde perch, the city's skyline twinkles like an ambitious neighborhood Christmas light display.

Left: Just south of the city, Buccaneer Yacht Club harbor glistens at twilight. Contrary to popular belief, the club, at the mouth of Dog River, is not named for our area's notorious pirates, but after the founders' sloop.

Center: Bienville Square's Ketchum Fountain is a quintessential Mobile landmark, towering among statuesque live oaks. The iconic ironwork was named in honor of local physician and civic leader Dr. George A. Ketchum.

Right: Geri Moulton Children's Park, at the University of South Alabama's Children's and Women's Hospital, features more than 50 life-size sculptures scattered under 200-year-old oak trees. Patients and their families play among the cast artwork.
