Local fashionista Garland Sanders shares advice geared toward the fashion savvy, and the fashion challenged, in the Mobile Bay area:
When I go to a party I always look to see what the hostess is wearing. In my opinion, it is very important for that person to look her best, especially during the holidays. Please, do not wear black. If you just have to, at least make it interesting by incorporating a fabulous necklace or unique shoes would be good. Big and rhinestone encrusted earrings are great, too. Plus, they're fun and festive. Don't be afraid to wear them!
The Christmas season is a wonderful time to showcase pretty fabrics such as brocade, lace, soft cashmere and gold metallic. Try a pretty, soft brocade dress paired with a wrap, or a metallic blouse with high-waisted wide leg pants - so pretty! The goal should be to look welcoming, comfortable and fabulous at the same time.
Pay attention to the details. Personally, they are my favorite. Great detail can make or break an outfit.
Above all else, wear confidence. Parties, especially Christmas parties, are to enjoy friends and family and celebrate each other and the season. Remember that, and you'll shine.
